The blight left the potatoes in such a state that they were not fit to be eaten and on that account a great many people died of hunger because potatoes were the chief food of the Irish people at that time. It was been discovered that if the farmers spray the potatoes with a mixture of bluestone and washing-soda it will prevent the blight from harming the potatoes. It is said that the potatoes were not as good as they were before the blight came at them.
