- (continued from previous page)went ot a coursing meeting in Tralee hale and hearty. It was St. Stephen's Day. Suddenly he collapsed in the course and he fell dead like a dog. Afterwards the people recalled this incident and they always thought of the words the old widow said. The old people used say that the curse of the widow always came true. Newtownsandes was called after George Sandes. He used often visit Newtown.The Raymonds of Drummond were very harsh landlords also. Any tenant that worked for Raymond would have to work a hard day's work for ten pence. They were threatened with eviction unless they did this. One man that worked for Raymond afterwards said, "Tenpence a day, and to tay".(continues on next page)
