- An epidemic visited this district in the year 1919. It lasted for about two months. It was the worst that ever visited the district. Whole families were laid up for months. Many people died as a result and many others would have died also, but a man by the name of John Kelly of Islandanny visited the village every morning and attended to the sick people who were not able to attend to themselves.
