- The wren the wren the king of all birds
St. Stephen's day was caught in the furze.
Although he is small his family is great.
Rise up land-lady and give us our treat.
We followed the wren the whole day
through dirty water and muddy clay.
From tree to tree from bush to bush.
As I was passing by a shop
I met a wren upon a rock.
I put up my stick and gave him a knock
and turned him into a bottle of hop.
Up with the kettle down with the pan.
Give us our answer and let us be gone.- Collector
