- Long ago the old people used to make a cake and hang it up to the ceiling for a year or two. When a year or two would be passed they used to take it down and wind the flax around it for weaving.Another custom was on Novembers night the young girls used to hang a head of cabbage from the ceiling and it used to be left there until morning and the first man that came in in the morning was her husband.
