- In this parish there are four forges which are owned by Messrs Brennan, Feeney, Glynn and Wade. This trade was handed down to them from their fathers and grandfathers who were famous blacksmiths.
Two of the forges are situated near cross roads, one is situated close to the little town of Kilkerrin and the other is situated by the side of the public road. These forges are made of stone but they are not all roofed in the same way. One of them is roofed with timber, one is thatched, one slated and one galvanised.
Inside in all the forges there is one fireplace. In front of the fire place there is a trough of water and this water is used for cooling the iron. This water is supposed to be a cure for warts. For blowing the fire the blacksmiths use bellows. The following are the tools used by the blacksmiths, the anvil, sledge, hammer(continues on next page)- Collector
