Ar an leathanach seo

    pincers and rasps. These tools were not made by the blacksmith himself but they were bought. In the forges the blacksmiths make ploughs, gates and other things. They shoe horses, ponies and donkeys and they also repair all farm implements. The blacksmith's work is mostly indoor but sometimes he works out of doors. The work done outside by him is shoeing cart-wheels. Before now the fuel used in the fires was different from what is used now. The fuel was obtained from turf which was first put into a pit and half burned, then covered with clay and grass and left in this state for some time before using.
    Long ago people had a great dislike for blacksmiths and were much terrified to be in their company. Blacksmiths were renowned for their story-telling and they had lots of old "Fenian" tales and fairy yarns. During the war they used to make pikes for the soldiers. Nowadays the blacksmiths are not as terrifying as they used to be in bygone days. The are not as renowned for their story-
