    leather, and this often has holes burned in it and looks very black.
    There is a saying, Its black as a Blacksmiths apron.
    Some of his work is done out in the open air, such as putting shoen on cart wheels. He has a row of flat stones outside in the forge yard, the shape of a wheel and on this he lays the iron the shape of a wheel, and builds turf round it, and lights it. When it is hot enough to beat, he puts it in on the wooden wheel, and hammers it on to it. Then he cools the iron in water. He has a trough of water in which he cools all his irons.
    People say that there is a cure in this water
