Put the chairs round the fire before you go to bed, leave the door open and a cake and milk on the table for the dead who may visit you during the night.
Notice what direction the wind is blowing on Hallow eve night. It will blow generally in that direction for 12 months. For the souls change their abode (purgatory) every November night. And when they do, they go into shelter from the wind, so God leaves the wind in that direction for a year until they change again.
