    As chance (it did direct me,
    Where stood the palace of O'Rourke,
    The king of ancient Breffni,
    Whose deeds we need not here revoke,#
    They are so well recorded.
    How the O'Rourkes, the English drove,
    Out of the Connaught borders.
    But as I gazed on Breffni's vales,
    I found a strange delusion,
    That it was there once dwelt the fair,
    Caused Erin's persecution .
    Whom henious Dermot carried off,
    Though by her own discretion.
    When O'Rourke was on a pilgrimage,
    Imploring God's protection.
    I got so much confused at this
    I turned around with horror.
    And quickly then I did espy,
    Where lived great King O'Connor.
