    the pan it was cut into four parts and each part was called a 'farel'.
    It was only on special occasions that flour was bought. When a soda cake was a making the flour was put in a basin and salt and soda and buttermilk were added and it was mixed into a dough. Then is was put in an oven and baked and a cross was cut on the top of it.
