After the "Dragging Home" would take place with the Bride's "Flitting" which consisted of an oak chest full of home-made linen, a small table, and a few chairs, she would remain in her home a month. It was very lucky for the bride to borrow a garment and wear it on the day of her marriage. Long ago it was a very lucky custom to throw a "beesom" and an old shoe after the bride.
Another custom is, on the day of her marriage, she takes a piece of glass and breaks it against a stone, and as many pienes as it is broken into, it is said the married pair will live happily that many years.
To marry on a bright sunny day is a strong omen of bliss, to marry on a
dreary day is a sign of misfortune. There is a rhyme in connection with the clothes the bride wears on her wedding day.
