- Potato CropPotatoes are grown on our land. An acre of land is under potatoes each year. The amount varies.Nen and horses prepare the ground.
The ground is manured before it is turned up. The potatoes are sown in ridges. When making ridges, they turn a sod in each side and fill they middle with mold.A plough and a spade are used.
Wooden ploughs were used long ago, but there are none left now. The spades are bought in shops.The seed potatoes are cut with an eye in every split, if there is no eye it will not grow.The local people help one and other.
One man goes to another man for a day ploughing then he comes to him come other day.When the stalks are seen appearing they put ammonia on them and mould them. About month after this, they spray them with blue stones and washing soda. They dig the potatoes with spades in Autumn. The children and the women pick the potatoes.
