Muire' folks became more corrupt than the Elizabethan invaders.
Our Aughavas annals have one or two remarkable '98 figures to record - Fr. Dunne F. P. Bright Star of Ireland and Willie Stiggins a classical scholar, afterwards bishop of Ardaghs who was taught in the old thatched chapel of Aughavas by a great grand uncle of Peter Quinn Leganomer.
The old Aughavas folk attach some local importance to Cavan cemetery. It is said that St. Patrick stayed a night in Cavan, slept with a stone for his pillow. This stone is now pointed out at the well where people go every Patrick's Day to perform a 'station'. The older folks say that from a person left to do the station he was not supposed to talk to any one till he got through the devotions
At Aughavas chapel in Michl OReilly's meadow is the site of a Pagaw cemetery. Up to a very recent date 'funerals' were frequently met on their way to the place of internment at the Dolomen.
