- One day O'Connor of Carrigafoyle bought an ear-ring in Paris and swore that if he could not pay for it in a year he would forfeit his estate of Iraghticonnor.
When he arrived home, his friends were jealous of the gold ear-ring. He forgot to pay for it within a year and it never dawned upon him till a year and a day had passed . He then forfeited his estate but he retained his castle.
