- In the penal days there was a hedgeschool in the district of Clounamon and the master was Micheal O'Connor.
This school was taught in a little mud cabin in the corner of a certain field. Every morning a number of pupils attended this school and each pupil had to bring his own stool to sit on for the day. At the end of every month, the scholars paid the master at the rate of one shilling and sixpence each. This master taught English, Irish and Arithmetic to the pupils.
