for the baptism of St Brendan. Saint Brendan was born at Kilfenora near Fenit. On the night of his birth Bishop Erc saw a bright light in the sky and knew that a wonderful child was born. He went in the direction of the light and found the child in a little house in Kilfenora. He took him to a well inTubrid and baptised him there and named him Brenday which means "fair or bright drop".
