- In the year 1839 there was a very severe period of big wind. The evening got very rough and as the night advanced the wind became stronger and stronger until it rose to such a degree as to cause very much danger.
There were several houses knocked down, trees rooted up and people and animals killed and terrified. The sea water was blown in around the coast for miles and miles.
Mothers were running here and there with their babies in their arms trying to save and shelter them.
After some time the wind calmed gradually and before long all was over except the terrible after effects.- Collector
