  1. An Old Story
Once there were two men who lived in Cloongoonagh. I do not know their names. They were very fond of making poteen. One night they were making it beside a fort called Carraigeena. Fairies were always supposed to be living in this fort. As they were making it they heard two or three people having a conversation among themselves. When they looked in the direction from where the talk came they saw a Civic Guard running. When he saw them he disappeared at once and a great storm arose. When they saw this they knew it was the fairies. Then they said to each other we shall throw two glasses of poteen into the bushes for luck. When they threw it in the storm ceased at once.
