- (continued from previous page)and a youth named Jack Lawlor who took part in the ambush fell into the hands of the Free State soldiers. They bound him and dragged him along and he received several blows and insults before they reached Ballyheigue Village, which is about three miles from where he was captured.
This poor boy was detained prisoner in a house in Ballyheigue until the next day. Then he was taken out and shot by one of the Free State soldiers near Ballyheigue Churchyard where he is now laid to rest.
A white wooden cross marks the spot where his bones lay.
We all cherish his memory still, for he is the hero and martyr of this parish. He gave his life for the freedom we all enjoy to-day. May he rest in peace.- Collector
