- In olden times when there were no such things as gas or lamps or electric light or anything like the light we enjoy at the present day, the people made candles at their homes. They called these Pádógs. They were made from the fat of animals.
They got pieces of cotton thread for a wick, and they twisted these together and they put it through the middle of the mould, leaving a little bit at each end so that it would be easy to pull out the candle when made.
When the fat was melted they poured it into the mould and left it there till it was thoroughly hard. Then they pulled it out by means of the wick and then they had candles for use.- Informant
