- A StoryThere was once an old woman who lived in the west of Kerry. As is usual in country places the priest announced that the stations were to be held in her house in a fortnight's time.
She objected to this. A few days later the priest visited her house and assured her that she need not go to any expense. All he asked of her was to have the Mass celebrated in her house, but she still refused.
A short time after seven rats of different colours visited her house. She fed them with bread and they went to a near-by stream for water.
They always disappeared when the sacrifice of the Mass was being offered up in a church near by.
Some time after another priest came to the parish who banished the rats from her; but as a second penance she had to draw huge stones from a mountain and place them all round her house.
In the ordinary course it would take three strong men to lift one of those. She sat on top of these rocks while the people went to Mass and rocked herself to and fro.
She lived to be a very old woman.
