- The Board of Works' road starts about 200 yards east of Glencuttane School and goes in a south-easterly direction to Sweeney's Cross which is near(?) Kilgobnet School. It is south of the present public road, which runs from Glencuttane to Shanra Cross, and is partly parallel to it. It was given a Relief scheme about or shortly after the Famine. A woman whose father and brothers worked on the road said it was at that time the yellow meal "came to Killorglin", and she bought a pound of it for a penny. They used it to make a gruel which they ate and thought very good.
