- (continued from previous page)ran away laughing and the man got no gold.
The mermaid is half human and half fish. She lives in the sea. She has long hair down her back and is often seen combing it. When there is going to be a drowning the mermaid appears in the water.
There was a man one time fishing and he saw a mermaid outside in the water. He ran out and took her cloak off her and then she had no power to stay in the water. He brought her home with him and got married to her. She was always trying to get her cloak and to go back to the sea. She asked the children did they see where their father had her cloak and she told them to look for it for her.
One day the little boy was out with his father. He had her cloak hidden under the eve of the house and he took it out to look at it. He did not think of the child being with him and the child ran into the house and told its mother and she got her cloak and put it on her and went back to the sea. She brought the child that told her where her cloak was with her and she was never seen again.- Collector
