- This district is well supplied with roads, but some time ago there were practically no roads save some foreens little better than pathways.
After the famine the people of Ireland were very poor. Relief works were started and a good many roads were made.
The road outside this school is a very old one. Long ago it passed over a hill but after a time a portion was added to it that passed over level ground. It was called the Sligo - castleban road.
There is another road in this district called the "Stir-about" road.
That name was given to it because when it was made the workers were not paid with money but were given their meals which(continues on next page)- Collector
