- (continued from previous page)The streaks were loosened and shaken gently. Then the flax was put into the cuigeán to be spun into yarn and when the perin was full of yarn, the spinner had to stop and put it on "the jackreel". When a hundred and twenty threads were wound on the "jack reel" a crack was heard and that was a sign that there was a "cut".When six cuts were on the jackreel they were taken down and wound up nicely and when there was a good amount spun it was put into a tub and left to steep for a week. It was then boiled in a pot and re-washed, after which it was bleached. The thread was made into hanks for the weaver. Next it was woven into cloth which looked rough, coarse and yellow.
