- Some years ago before moving machines became plentiful in the country a large portion of the meadows was cut with scythes and it was no surprise to hear of a man cutting a halfacre of meadow in one day. James Gorevin who lived in Knockbeg set a field of meadow to Luke Walsh of Knockbeg and John Connell of Carrickbanagher to cut for him. The size of the field was exactly one acre and a half. The two men entered the field the next morning at 10 o'clock, they are once sharpened their scythes and commenced to mow. They mowed away fairly constantly but they took an hour off for dinner and refreshed themselves occasionally with a drink of milk and the usual(continues on next page)
