    with straw or rushes. They had a half door which seved many purposes. It kept out poultry and let in fresh air. In olden times there were very small windows with iron bars to prevent anybody entering in the night. The windows were held tight in the walls and could not open nor close. They used candles as light which were made out of rushes dipped in fat.
