  1. Food in Olden Times (17-6-'38)
The people in olden times lived on different food than at present. Their chief food were potatoes porridge, oaten bread, buttermilk and cabbage with a little salt on it. They very seldom used tea except at Xmas. Some families lived on two meals a day, others on three according to their food.
They were good workers and always worked hard before their breakfast. It is said that they were often waiting on the potato ridge for day-light to come. Then at about nine o'clock they would get their breakfast which perhaps was porridge + buttermilk.
There were not may tables to be had at that time. They would eat their dinner on a stool in the centre of the floor. A big basket was left on the stool beside them with plenty of potatoes in it.
