- (continued from previous page)in some cases the houses had no chimney at all only a hole in the roof so as to let the smoke escape. The old people say there were no glass windows, only old mats put in the windows at night to keep the cold out. The floors were also made of 'daub'. Half doors were more common in olden times than they are now-a-days. There are some half-doors to be had yet in the district. The fire the old people had were turf and wood, and in some cases people use coal.
