  1. There was a man living in this district whose man was John Taffe or he was better known by the name of "Mad Taffe" who was a noted duelist. He lived formerly in Drumrane. He was away from home on this particular day when a man by the name of Finton came shooting around his residence and when Taffe's man reported the matter to Taffe himself. Taffe got angry and he took his pistol and went in pursuit of Finton but could not find him.
    Hearing that Finton went to Boyle he went there but could not find him and as it was market day in Boyle he met a woman coming in to the market with ducks in a basked with tassels on their heads. He made a bargain with the woman and bought one of the ducks for two shilling and when he had paid for the duck was a certain length away he put up his pistol and shot the tassel off the duck's head.
