- In the townland of Clogher there are two or more hidden treasures. One of them is hidden in a rather elevated hill which our predecessors called “Mullach na Leice.”
Near to the spot where the hoard is secluded there is a huge rock called “The Giant’s Rock” on which the image of spears are to be identified. On this rock the spears of the local heroes of a former generation were sharpened.
Tradition tells us it was the Danes that placed the treasure there. They disliked the generation who would succeed them and for this reason they did not desire them to obtain any of their property. In order to prevent this they placed it in a position where their successors would not find it. Old people tell us that attempts have been made to unearth it but that it is guarded by a huge, black cat, which is folded around the mouth of the vessel and anyone who seeks to find it is attacked by this cat and is forced to leave his booty behind.
This treasure consists of a pot of gold, which is supposed to be of immense value.
At a short distance from this hill there is another such treasure stored beneath a fort.(continues on next page)- Collector
