    sold about the first of October, it was taken to be sold on "strather-fhada - that is a means of taking the baskets without injuring the horse's back. The people who had little butter would take it to market on the top of their heads, and brought home their message when they got rid of the butter.
    Later on cattle were taken to these cross-road fairs, the most important places where fairs were held in this district are:- Farranfore, Kilgobnait, Cluhereen and the cross roads near Kenmare town. These fairs were in the course of time abolished and were held in the nearest towns.
