    I'm told he lives in Carna ten miles from Keady town,
    I'm told his name is Keatings & I hear the people say,
    His dwelling habitation lies in the townland of Clay
    He's a credit to his country for the deeds that he has done,
    For the day of Keady races, he showed them all some fun.

    The morning, it had been misty, but it soon cleared off the sky,
    And Keatings mounting on his mare, he showed them all surprize,
    When Keatings mounting on his charge these words to her did say,
    "It's not the prize we value but to bring honour home to Clay",
    They were only half way round the course, says Keatings to his stead,
    "You may take your time they're far behind,
    You're foremost of them all",
    They leaped over hedges & ditches & they never got a fall.
