  1. Many years ago a man was riding a horse across the country from Cootehill to Castleblayney. He had in his possession a top-boot full of gold. On his way he was overtaken by a crowd of Yoemen horse who gave chase. Their were fed horses soon were closing up on the man and he dropped the treasure in a bog between Ballytrain and Dermottscross. The Yoemen overtook the man and when they found he had'nt the treasure they shot him.
Some people tried to get the treasure but with no avail. The mans ghost was seen standing on a boghole many times after the occurrence and he seemed to be pointing into the water.
