- Shops were common in olden times. The people had to go to the nearest town to make there purchases. Buying was carried on after Mass with small goods. The articles that were sold after mass were, cigaretts, tobacco, and bread. Money was not always given for goods.It is unlucky to buy or sell on Whit Sunday and Saturdays. Markets were held at Ballytrain long ago. Hucksters, peddlers and rag dealers are still in the district. They buy rags and feathers, and they still do it.
