  1. The local fairs are held in Castleblayney, Newtownhamilton, Ballybay, Keady, and Carrickmacross. These fairs are all held in towns. Castleblayney is held on the first Wednesday of each month. Newtownhamilton is held on the last Saturday of each month. Ballybay is held on the third Saturday of each month. Keady is held on the first Friday of each month. Carrickmacross is held on the third Thursday of each month.
    The buyers all transact business in the farmer's houses long ago. They do it yet but not so much as they did long ago. Fairs were not held formerly which have now been discontinued. There is a special fairplace for the cattle which is called the "commons" but there is no special fairplace for the horses, pigs, or sheep. Toll is not paid now - a - days on cattle sold. It was paid long ago to the council but now any cattle are sold the person who sells them puts them in a yard and he has to pay three pence per head.
