  1. This song was made by John Donaghy, Cordoo who is now dead. He composed it while in Belfast Prison in April 1921.
    Boyhood Memories
It is now fourteen years & a month I might say
Since I started around this old land for to stay
To each place of historic importance Iv'e been
From the cliffs of Fair Head unto old Skibbereen
What a contrast this seems to those days when a boy
When the home of my parents alone brought me joy
When with violin & bow I would play from my store
Of old Irish tunes when each days' work was o'er.
Ah! those days of my youth, they now seem too few
That I spent on that fertile old soil of Cordoo
'Midst once loving hearts which alas! have turned cold
And affection replaced with the lure of the gold.
Shll for all this sad tale sure my heart often turns
With pride every time that I see in my dreams
Those scenes of my boyhood each meadow & hill
And that cherished old home on the brow o' the hill.
Oh! how well I remember each day when the peal
Of the Angelus bell reached my ears in the field
Sure it told me that Ellie of Carn so fair
