- (continued from previous page)with a mixture of sulphate of copper and either lime or washing soda. Spraying is done twice or three times. When the tubers are fully grown the leaves and the stalks die, and they are ready for digging about the last week of September. They are dug either with a potatoe digger or spade, gathered by hand and put in pits and covered with clay to protect them from sun and frost.
