    he competed. He threw a half-cwt weight, twenty four feet at sports in Lisdowney. Another famous stone-thrower is Mr Nolan Blackwood.
    Some years ago there was a famous swimmer in this county by the name of Cock Byrne. One day he dived from Green's Bridge in his clothes and swan to the Bishop's Meadows about 400 yards up the river Nore. He performed this swimming feat for a quart of beer. Another great swimmer was John Whelan, Bridge St., Freshford.
    A swift runner in this district was Christe Cane, Kilkenny St., Freshford. He won in a race from Freshford to Tipperary. The best runner in Freshford at present is Edward Dowling of Lodgepark, Freshford. He competed in several places in Co. Kilkenny, in Thomastown, Castlecomer, Johnstown and Kilkenny itself and also came in first
