  1. The Local patron Saint of this district is St Kieran. His anniversary falls on the 5th March. He lived in Fertagh two miles from Johnstown Co Kilkenny. He had a pet lamb which he loved very much. One day the lamb was killed on him and he accused his servent of doing it.
    Then the St put the lamb in a sack and brought to Cormack's moat to bury it. As he was about to cover back the clay on the grave an Angel appeared to him and said "Lamb of God who takest away the sins of the world." The Angel said this three times and each time it was said St Kieran was striking his breast. Every night of his anniversary the lamb is heard bleating at a quarter past one.
