  1. Potato-bread and oaten-bread were the most used in our district. Some flour was also used. It was made from wheat. It was ground on the grindstone. When it was made it was not white, but blackish in colour. Oaten-bread was made from oaten-meal, Salt & a little water was used in the mixing. A support was set before the fire and the bread was set against it and left there until it was hard. The potato bread was made from boiled potatoes, salt and a little flour, & baked on a griddle on the top of the fire. It was baked twice a week & when any person was going to America the neighbours would bake
