Gypsies are very fond of the flesh. The animal is rolled up in a ball of clay. When the roll is cooked the bally of clay cracks and the spines and skin come off with the hot clay. the flesh is then ready to be eaten.
The weasel is a courageous little animal. Old people say that a purse made of weasel skin is very lucky to have.
The mouse is often cooked and the soup is used as a cure for whooping cough.
The shrew is related to the weasel. In olden times people had very curious superstitions regarding those little animals. One of those was that a cow over which a shrew had run would suffer from terrible swellings and eventually die. Such cow was said to be "shrew struck".
