  1. Long ago the natives of this parish had to work much harder than they do now. They had before mills came into operation, to make their own flour. It was principally oaten flour. They first grew the oats and stored it and dried it well. Then they ground it between two quern stones. The indentations on the querns or(bróinte) were made with a small bit of pointed iron knows as the priocaire. There are dozens of the quern stones in the locality.
