There are no customs that I know of connected with Shrove. There are no matches made in this locality. Goods and money are given as wedding presents.
None of the old people remember marriages taking place in the houses. There is generally a marriage breakfast after the marriage. The breakfast is held in the bride's house or in a hotel. I do not know of any customs that are observed on the Marriage day.
Those who attend the marriage do not race each other on their way home. I do not know any day thought unlucky for Marriage. I got this folklore from my father William Tiernan.- Collector
