- (continued from previous page)prettiest little nests of moss, sticks, hay and hair. The robin lays white eggs tipped with brown, and after three weeks the young robins appear. It is said that when our Blessed Saviour was dying, a little robin did her utmost to pull a thorn out of his Sacred Head and in doing so, a drop of His precious blood fell upon her and ever since that, the robins have red breasts.
The weather can very often be judged by the behaviour of birds. When crows alight on ditches and in fields, it is a sign of rain. When the shrill cry of the curliew can be heard, it is a sign of severe weather while the cries of the "pilibín miog" also foretell severe weather. When seagulls fly inland, it is a sign of storm, and when the blackbirds hop near the doors in Winter in search of food, it(continues on next page)- Collector
