He was convinced that only one of them could be right, but he didn't care which.Pronunciation
He stated that all the old people called it Sham-bock.Meaning
Ned had the notion that the word had something to do with Bo, a cow - from the English pronunciation. He could not make this correspond with the Sham-bock of the old people and was visibly relieved to be informed that the old pronunciation was the correct one.Carmina
