    in one of their own fields, and she never did any good afterwards, but died after a short time. The truth or fact of course that the child or person who fell asleep had contracted some disease - probably consumption *contiuned (See opposite)
    6. On Saint Patrick's Day (about 40 and 50 yrs. ago. boys and girls wore Patrick's Crosses on their shoulders - I think it was on the right shoulder. I remember how proud we used feel of our crosses and that day each thinking hers was the nicest cross. They were made round like a rosette and had little loops of different coloured bright robbons. The mother or aunt made them. The same custom was carried out here in Kilkenny, and it was right for every child to wear some kind of a cross. If the child had no cross a burnt "kippen" or stick was taken out of the fire, and a black cross made with it on the child's shoulder.
    7. (see page 5) About Easter people used to give eggs to a child who would come in to the house, and it was called a "pruchóg". Neighbouring children visited houses around them, especially houses of relatives to get their Easter "pruchóg".
