- Nearly all the houses in this district long ago were thatched & when the thatch grew old & was wearing away, it was covered with corrugated iron. Some of the old houses had one bed in the kitchen. It was generally beside the fire.
Half-doors are not common at present, but they were.
Turf & wood were used for the fire, while candles were used for giving light.- Collector

- Thatched houses were common. There was a bed in the kitchen near the fire. The fire-place was always in the corner. The floor was made of clas as were also the chimneys.
