supposed to be able to get it back, they have to bring a piee of butter to the person who is supposed to get it back. She gives them a bit of the butter to rub on the cow's back in the form of a cross in the name of the Trinty. When they are coming home with the butter they are not to speak to anyone they meet or the charm was broken. The people that have the power to take the butter off the milk takes the water from the peoples wells that they use in churning the butter before the sun rises.
